Strategy Games Without The Stress
For years the mobile strategy shelf was dominated by games that ping you every few hours to come back and tap a building. Thankfully there's a better strain growing, and Tide of Banners is a fine example.
The trick is pause-friendly design. A strategy game that lets you stop and think — or just put the phone down for a day — respects that you have a life. Depth doesn't require urgency; it requires interesting choices.
What I love in this genre is when there's more than one way to win. Diplomacy, economy or war should all be viable, so two players can reach the end having played completely different games. That replayability is where the hours quietly go.
If you've been burned by timer-driven strategy before, don't give up on the genre. There are patient, generous games out there that treat your attention as a gift, not a resource to farm.
